William Shakespeare project 2017

Last week saw the conclusion of our wonderful and somewhat epic Shakespeare project.

During the last month, the children have studied the plays of the famous bard, participated in workshops, watched performances and even gone on a Shakespearean walk around London. The project came to a conclusion with our traditional celebration assemblies in which the children performed scenes from the plays they had studied. EYFS and KS1 entertained the audience of children and parents with very comedic interpretations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, whilst Y3 and 4 gave stirring and patriotic renditions of Henry V’s St Crispin Day speech. In upper KS2, the children put on a mature and powerful performance of Macbeth.

The assemblies also celebrated the wonderful competition entries which had been submitted for the project – including fantastic models, beautiful hand-drawn portraits and inventive Top Trump game cards. Special mention must go to Zeena in Y6 who made a fantastic bust of Macbeth’s head.

During the project, a drama competition was also opened to all children in Yrs 4, 5 and 6 with the entrants challenged to perform a scene or recite a soliloquy from Shakespeare’s original writings. The judges were amazed by the performances, and it was hard to choose winners. First place: Jessica and Chiamaka (Y5) Second place: Egheose (Y6) Runners-up: Peace, Teresa and Ella (Y6) Honourable mention: Abigail (Y3)
