Procession of the Most Holy Blessed Sacrament and Benediction

On Thursday we held a very special and holy religious service for our whole school. This was held following 27 of our children making their First Holy Communion. Communion, also known as the Blessed Sacrament, is the most holy experience Catholics can experience on Earth. As Catholics, we believe that the Blessed Sacrament is the Body of Jesus. Catholics believe that the bread offered up by the priest has been transformed (transubstantiation) into the Body of Christ, just as Jesus himself did at the Last Supper. Because of this belief, we hold the highest regard for Communion, and that it is at the centre of our whole practice. Following Mass on Thursday, Fr Dan processed out from the church across the playground carrying the holy Eucharist in a monstrance for all the children to see. He then took it into our school hall where he held Benediction, which is an ancient Catholic tradition of praising God through His Blessed Eucharist. The children sang beautifully Soul of My Saviour and Sweet Sacrament Divine and together we recited the Divine Praises. It was a beautiful service.
