The Charles Dickens Project - A Dickensian Walk around London
On Friday 8th March, the children in year 4 and 5 were taken on a wonderful Dickensian tour of London. The tour guides for the day were the magnificent Eugene and Lizzy Wrayburn (Mr Helliwell & Miss Pape), two Dickensian characters, from the book Our Mutual Friend. It was really exciting for the children to see some of the areas that inspired many of Dickens’ books. The remaining wall of Marshalsea Debtors prison, where Dickens’ father and family were held, was one of many important sites that we visited. We also walked through Borough Market to observe where Oliver Twist and Fagin’s gang would have picked a pocket or two.
We all really appreciate the amount of effort and hard work that Miss Pape & Mr Helliwell must have undertaken to make it such an incredible experience for everyone
